为何学习使我肥胖?原来,累了困了更容易吃不健康的食品

熬夜学习,是不是疯狂想吃薯片、炸鸡、汉堡、辣条、方便面,根本把持不住自己?有研究显示,原来人们疲倦时更倾向选择不健康的食品。

研究表明,只要一夜不睡,人们就会比较喜欢吃垃圾食品。

Scientists?attribute?the?effect?to?the?way?foodrewards?are?processed?by?the?brain.?Previousstudies?have?found?that?a?lack?of?shuteye?islinked?to?expanding?waistlines,?with?somesuggesting?disrupted?sleep?might?affecthormone?levels,?resulting?in?changes?in?howhungry?or?full?people?feel.

But?the?latest?study?suggests?that?withhormones?may?have?little?to?do?with?thephenomenon,?and?that?the?cause?could?bechanges?in?the?activity?within?and?betweenregions?of?the?brain?involved?in?reward?andregulation.

“Our?data?brings?us?a?little?closer?tounderstanding?the?mechanism?behind?howsleep?deprivation?changes?food?valuation,”?said?Prof?Jan?Peters,?a?co-author?of?theresearch?from?the?University?of?Cologne.

A?week?later,?the?experiment?was?repeated,?with?the?participants?who?had?previouslystayed?up?allowed?to?sleep,?and?vice?versa.

The?results?showed?that?whether?sleep-deprived?or?not,?participants?were?similarlyhungry?in?the?morning,?and?had?similar?levelsof?most?hormones?and?blood?sugar.?However,?when?participants?were?sleep-deprived,?theywere?willing?to?pay?more?for?a?food?snack?thanwhen?rested,?and?had?higher?levels?in?theirblood?of?a?substance?called?desacyl?ghrelin?–?which?is?related?to?the?“hunger?hormone”?ghrelin,?though?its?function?is?not?clear.

The?fMRI?results?showed?that?when?sleep-deprived,?participants?had?greater?activity?inthe?brain's?amygdala?(where?food?rewards?areprocessed)?when?food?images?were?shown,?and?a?stronger?link?between?the?priceparticipants?would?pay?for?food?and?activity?inthe?hypothalamus?(which?is?involved?inregulating?consumption).?Interactions?betweenthese?two?regions?increased?compared?withwhen?participants?had?slept.

But?the?team?found?there?was?no?link?betweenindividuals’?changes?in?levels?of?desacylghrelin?and?any?of?the?brain?or?behaviourdifferences?–?although?Peters?said?that?couldbe?because?levels?were?very?high?andparticipants?were?equally?hungry?whetherrested?or?not.?This,?the?team?said,?suggestedchanges?in?brain?activity?after?a?bad?night'ssleep?were?not?just?about?hormones.
